The Bread Basket Bakery was born in 1982 when Joan Tallman began baking out of her home kitchen for friends and family. Over the next four decades, Joan grew the business into a thriving staple in downtown Saratoga Springs.
In 2020, Joan decided to retire her apron. Lisa and Ed Mitzen, the founders of The Business for Good FoundationTM purchased the business and building in 2020, committed to keeping the same delicious recipes that made the Bread Basket so successful for years and years.
Business for Good invests in people to build better businesses, stronger communities, and a more equitable world. ALL profits from BFG Owned business go to local charitable causes, including those fighting food insecurity and hunger.
A native of Saratoga Springs, Sarah enrolled in college to become a teacher but found out quickly that hospitality was her passion. Sarah’s varied professional experience in both fine and casual dining, as well as catering has helped her hone in on what she really loves about her career—developing relationships with guests, anticipating their needs, making sure everyone has the best experience possible. Sarah loves the creative side of her work too—keeping the menu fresh and exciting, coming up with fun, new promotional ideas. At the Bread Basket, Sarah gets to do what she loves, and serve a community that’s close to her heart.
